Magic Keyboard Alternatives

The Magic Keyboard for the iPad Pro 11” model offers a premium typing experience with a responsive, full-size keyboard and a floating cantilever design that allows easy adjustment of the viewing angle. It features a backlit keyboard for comfortable typing in low-light conditions and includes a built-in trackpad that supports multi-touch gestures and precise cursor control. The keyboard connects seamlessly via the iPad Pro’s Smart Connector, eliminating the need for Bluetooth pairing or charging, and also protects both the front and back of the device when closed. Additionally, it provides a USB-C pass-through port for charging the iPad while keeping the main USB-C port free for accessories.

While no one is doubting its great functionality and superior build, knowing that, in order to complete the functionality of the iPad that already costs more than it should, adding on an extra $279 just for a keyboard is hard to consider. That’s where a third-party keyboard case comes in. With 98% of the functionality at less than 20% of the Apple version, a 3rd party case looks rather enticing. Let’s take a look at a few of the alternative options out there.

The case I currently use

NOKBABO’s iPad Pro case from their official Amazon page

As a disclaimer, I am in no way affiliated with this product. I bought it with my own money and use it on a daily basis.

The NOKBABO iPad Pro 11” case with keyboard offers similar design, enhanced durability, and compatibility functionality to the Magic Keyboard.

Made from synthetic leather, it guards against scratches and drops with a sleek look.
Its built-in Bluetooth keyboard features responsive, well-spaced keys, multiple language layouts, and iPadOS shortcut keys for quick function access. Magnetic attachment ensures a secure fit and easy installation, while the auto sleep/wake function saves battery.

The adjustable stand provides multiple viewing angles for typing, drawing, or media. The rechargeable USB-C keyboard offers long battery life. Precise cutouts allow full access to ports, buttons, and cameras.

Combining protection, style, and functionality, this case is perfect for professionals and students using the iPad Pro 11”.

Another benefit for this brand would be their excellent customer service. I had an issue with the case I had originally bought from Amazon. After leaving a review Amazon explaining my issue, the company reached out to me directly to resolve the issue. They sent me a replacement case that works perfectly and was much better quality in just a few short days. I was very impressed with their professionalism.

Other alternatives

There are many alternatives to the magic keyboard on Amazon. I’ve been using a keyboard case with my iPad since 2018. I originally got the folio case when I was first starting out, but I hated the form factor, the keys, the lack of a trackpad, and the stand placement options. I very quickly moved to third-party options and have never looked back.

ESR’s case from their official Amazon page

Another of these alternatives that I have used the 13” model on my wife’s iPad is the ESR brand. It does come with a higher price of $104.99 currently, but it comes with a few extra features that the Nokbabo doesn’t have. As you can see in the image above, this case comes with a protective cover that can be left on the iPad even when not in the keyboard. This adds a whole layer of protection that not even the Magic Keyboard offers. Another benefit of this case is its ability to hold the iPad in either landscape or portrait mode. This allows you to have even more freedom when working.

My conclusions

In the end, the Magic Keyboard may offer premium build quality and seamless integration, but it’s no longer the only game in town. With third-party alternatives delivering comparable functionality, thoughtful design, and often even extra features at a fraction of the cost, it’s hard to justify sticking with Apple’s steep pricing. For most users, choosing a more affordable option isn’t just practical-it’s smart.
